Spouse took this week off work. And so it's been spring cleaning of a sort around here. Thus far this week we have, either individually or in consort:

Lists! I have lists! )

Alli is my new friend. I hope. And musings on the cost of food. )

Yesterday, I submitted my application for the Technical Expert position in Oroville. I'm not holding my breath, but we'll see.

This month's QPB selections sounded promising.

New books! )

I didn't decline the selection as is my usual practice. My copies arrived in the mail day before yesterday. I can't decide which one to read first.

As much as I love ice cream, and pudding, and yogurt, and smoothies, my mouth is craving something it can crunch. Like nuts, or carrots, or crackers.

However, if I tried to eat some satisfyingly crunchy something, all the pain medication in the world wouldn't save me from the excruciating torture that would ensue. I'm at least a week away from feasting on anything more substantial than Yoplait.

Back in the oral surgeon's chair yesterday for the fix-it procedure on the other side of my mouth. V-8 Fusion and Juice Plus smoothies are my friends. Excuse me, I have to go take more pain meds now.

*floats to the medicine cabinet*

It's "Get Fit" time at my agency. Every spring, the agency promotes an exercise campaign designed to get us cube farmers out of our chairs and into motion. This year I decided to actually participate. Two colleagues and I try to walk together on each of our breaks. If we can't manage to take our breaks together because one or another is stuck in an interview, we go by ourselves. This past week, I walked Thursday and Friday, 30 minutes each day in 15-minute intervals. Saturday I mowed the front yard. I was a couch potato today, however. I haven't weighed myself in the last few days. I've been afraid to. Although I've been a fairly good girl activity-wise, I've been a very bad girl food-wise. *sigh* Old habits die very hard.

Yesterday I also drove into Roseville. The original plan was to have lunch with a girlfriend, but she called when I was halfway there to beg off with a migraine. Instead, we'll meet tomorrow after my dental appointment. (Stitches come out! Yay!) Even though lunch was out, I continued on my merry way after all, and went to see an old friend at her bookstore, where I promptly dropped waaay too much money.

My family escaped being hit by the massive storms in Arkansas this past week. Although they caught some major rain, the tornados and high winds blew elsewhere. Mom informed me Sis and BIL made an offer on a house in Gadsden, which was accepted. Their escrow should close by the end of the month.

Escrow on my house in Arkansas is supposed to close next Monday. If it does, that means no house payment this month, and we can start banking the former mortgage money right away. Woot! Again, however, chickens are not being counted. It just ain't done until it's done. But I can keep my fingers crossed.

It's April 26th! I wrote checks this morning convinced it was the 24th. Spending the last several days in a haze of Vicodin seriously warped my sense of space-time.

But the blinding mouth pain is down to a dull and bearable ache, thank goodness, and is easily mastered by simple ibuprofen. I still can't chew anything on that side of my mouth, but at least I can now eat foodstuffs with more substance than jello or yogurt. Last night I actually had a salad! Whodathunk I'd get so excited over crispy romaine with grated carrots, feta, and chicken chunks? No juicy steaks or even pork chops in the near future, but I bet I can handle roasted chicken....

Between the stomach flu in March, the regular flu two weeks ago, and now the gum surgery, my weight has dropped substantially in the last few months. From a high of 208 in November (yikes!) down to 185 this morning. 23 lbs! Woot! I'm encouraged enough to keep monitoring my intake. Vigorous exercise is iffy, though: Just washing my car this afternoon winded me. Simple walking will have to suffice for the next several months.

Can I count on you all for continued attaboys? 60 lbs until my goal weight. I'll keep you posted.

In other news, well, there is no other news. Back to work Monday. I'm sure I'll have news then.

Today I had oral surgery. What fun. My mouth hurts. The Vicodin barely helps. And I get to eat nothing but soup, ice cream, and yogurt for the next few days. Oh, and you know the best thing? I get to do it again on the other side of my mouth in about six months.

I wish I hadn't inherited my father's gums.

It's not allergies. According to the doctor, it's the flu. Crud.

Spring is sprung
The grass is riz
Oh how stuffy
My face iz

The other day, I answered the question "How do you tell it's spring?" with "Spring is when I use the heater when I drive to work in the morning and the air conditioner when I drive home in the afternoon."

But there's another sign of spring. Spring is when I suffer the annual bout with sinus drainage and a raw throat which will lead, eventually, to laryngitis. The pollen and mold count is high and allergy medication barely makes a difference.

Gosh I love spring.

Actually, I escaped this annual misery the last two years. "Cool," thought I, "the move to California means I have removed myself from the spring allergens!" Wrong. It just took me two years to develop a sensitivity to the allergens here.

*sniffle* *hack* *cough*

Pass the tissues, please.

So, as the apparent result of last weekend's bout with stomach flu, I have lost about 10 lbs. and have yet to regain any sort of appetite. A bowl of soup and a few pieces of fruit and I'm stuffed for the whole day.

Wonder how long this will last....Dare I hope 30 lbs. worth?
avanta7: (Reject Reality)
...that one can have the flu with just the fever, body aches, nausea, and diarrhea, and without upper respiratory symptoms? That is, no congestion, sneezing, or coughing? Neither did I. Until today.

I can hardly even keep water down. Shoot me now, please.

A cold.
A bad cold.
I think this is grounds for divorce.

I feel like crap on a stick.

Thank goodness for husbands who pamper their wives by bringing them hot Theraflu in a cup.

avanta7: (TempestTeacup)
Are summer colds worse than winter colds?
I don't know.
I don't care.
I just want this one to go away.

We had to move the bed to get the old dresser out and the new dresser in, and somewhere in all that pushing and pulling and lifting and carrying, I aggravated that old back injury. It hurts to sit, it hurts to walk...If I lie down I'm okay, but I can't stay in bed forever. I have too much to do. Grrr.
avanta7: (Exhausted Kitty)
I haven't been here much in the past week or so. I haven't felt particularly well, and have pretty much been going straight to bed when I come home from work each day. New itch medication makes me tired and sleepy most of the time. Should get the blood work back soon. Maybe we'll find out I'm allergic to my husband or something. Anyway, I've missed the vast majority of everything you all have posted since, gosh, at least a week and a half ago. Please let me know if I missed anything of major importance. I just don't have the energy to jump into the "archives". (Oh, I did see that [livejournal.com profile] whytraven's book is finally published. Yay Linda! You'll have my order soon.)

One okay thing about spending less time on the internet. I've gotten three books read in the last week. Of course, that barely made a dent in Mt. TBR. *grin* I wrote a review for one of them. The other two are sitting here on my desk with "Well?" expressions on their covers. If I keep this up, I'll turn into [livejournal.com profile] gorydetails. *double grin*

Excuse me. I'm going back to bed now.

Stupid headache.

Among numerous other topics of conversation, the South Beach Diet came up this weekend. Three of the girls have used it with success initially, with two failing later because they reverted back to their old eating habits instead of following the healthy maintenance plan.

Does anyone out there have any experience with this particular plan?
avanta7: (Default)
Tired, with a sore belly and bruises on his arms from the IVs and needle sticks, but he's home. Now maybe we can both get some rest.
avanta7: (SnarkyAvanta)
...he finally has a room. Oh, there is such a rant coming as soon as I have the energy.
avanta7: (Leonardo)
My poor hubster is still in the emergency room, waiting for a bed to open up. But the doctors believe he doesn't need surgery, so that's a good thing.

[livejournal.com profile] shendoah, your "well shit!" vibes appear to be working.
