I can't seem to drum up much interest in keeping this journal current lately. All sorts of little interesting (to me) things happen, and I can't be bothered to write it down. I'm rather addicted to a new (to me) word game, and most of my computer time is spent playing. Of course, I'm reading your stuff too.

So what prompted this entry? The usual 3:00 AM omigosh-why-am-I-awake-at-this-ungodly-hour insomnia. Yes. It's back. *sigh* Of course, tonight's sleeplessness may be caused by yesterday's napping for several hours.

I had intended to do so much yesterday: finally finish putting the master bathroom together, organize the computer area, and laundry, of course. However, after spouse left for work about 9:00 am, I sat down to read for a little while, and the next thing I knew it was nearly 1:00 pm. Even so, I was not refreshed and energized after such a long nap; I dragged my tail all day. One load of laundry was all I managed to get done. Otherwise, yesterday was a total waste. Weekends have been like that a lot lately. I have absolutely NO energy. But doctor says my thyroid is fine, and my blood sugar is fine. My blood pressure is borderline, which is to be expected: I've gained 20 lbs in the last year, and am now over 200. Perhaps the complete dearth of exercise is the reason for the lethargy. That, and the heat.

Have I mentioned how much I hate the heat? It's one of the reasons I dislike living in the valley. The older I get, the more I realize I am and always will be a coastal baby. Gimme the cool misty breeze, the fog, and the wonderful fresh smell of eucalyptus and salt water. Ah, if only....

We are doing our annual "can we wait until the end of May before turning the AC on?" dance. Yesterday, it was 82F (28C) in the house, and I couldn't stand it anymore, even with the ceiling fans on. So I flipped the switch, and promptly discovered that all our vents are closed. They're ceiling vents. We have 9-ft ceilings and no ladder. My kitchen stepstool isn't tall enough for me to reach the vents and open them. Today, I am buying a ladder.

Back to the motivation thing: I've got to find some gumption somewhere, and soon. We're working on our certification as a foster/adoptive home and, if all goes as planned, should be certified within the next six to eight weeks. We want to get the child(ren) into our home as soon as possible, preferably before school starts again in the fall. Which means I have to finish putting this house together. (Yes, spouse is helping, but if I haven't told him where I want things to go because I can't be bothered to put in any effort, there's not a whole lot he can do...)

Maybe the answer to all of this is exercise. If I start going for a brisk walk in the mornings before it gets hot, I know I'll feel better. It's the getting started part I have trouble with.

Gah. I need some tea.

If you can swing the price, a friend introduced me to a nifty home exercise toy, The Fluidity Bar

I was grousing because there is no "ballet for fitness" classes and I don't want to preform. She recommended this, and I was poking about the site. It looks awesome!

I'll recommend this because the movements are designed to work your entire body, not just trimming weight, but toning the muscles that will make you look thinner to boot. Strength training in this manner will also burn more calories over the course of the day.

And it can be done, at home, in the privacy of a closed door and drawn blinds. :) I'm getting one, so you'll see the reviews start popping up.

Oooh! That looks nifty! I'll eagerly await your review. In the meantime, I'll start walking in the evenings after it cools off.

Tea! Yes! I have not sent any packets of herb seeds because if I look at plants they die, so any seeds I send you would be cursed from the get-go. But now I know: I can send you some housewarming-type tea! Prepare to be beseiged with some good light summer-y teas that make nice cups o' hot in the morning when it's still acceptably cool, or *excellent* iced tea in the afternoon!

Tea is an excellent idea! (I planted an herb garden a couple of weeks ago with half-grown plants from Lowe's. Nothing like fresh basil and oregano!)
