....I am on VACATION!

Just a short one. I go back to work Tuesday. But I have six glorious days in a row where I don't have to go to the office, I don't have to think about work or quotas or deadlines or reports. I can sleep as late as I wish and stay up if I want. I might actually finish that bedamned epic science fiction novel I've been reading for the last month (curse you, Kim Stanley Robinson)! And maybe read something a little lighter as well. Awww, bliss....

Haven't read any Spider Robinson that I recall. But I rather doubt the two Robinsons are married to each other. Same sex marriages aren't legal in California. (KSR is male.) [grin]

It says something about how personal tastes in writing style can be - I have never been able to finish any of KS Robinson's novels. I've always had to skip great chunks of them if I want to get to the end at all. And I know that they're all highly regarded and very popular. *I* just don't like them.

The one I'm on is Blue Mars, the final novel in the Mars Trilogy. I read the first two earlier this year and am determined to finish it. Hardcore SF like I haven't read in a number of years. I do find myself skimming the more technical passages -- a good portion of it is way over my head. But I like the idea and the characters and the political system he's set up, and I really want to know how the story turns out.

The Years Of Rice And Salt is waiting on Mt. TBR. I hope it's not as difficult a read as the Mars books have been. Just in case, I'll go through several fluffy novels before tackling that one.
