My father is a wonderful man

Years ago, when we first moved to Arkansas and lived out in the boonies, I often pulled my car to the side of the two-lane blacktops and carried slow-moving tortoises from the middle of the road to the edge of the road so they wouldn't get squished. My family laughed at me. I earned the nickname "Turtle Savior." I wear it proudly.
My father travels hither and yon as part of his job. He frequently drives along rural routes and two-lane blacktops to get to his destination. Every now and then, like this morning, he calls to tell me he moved a turtle out of the road in my honor.
My hero. *beam*

And have you read Beach House by Mary Alice Munroe? http://bookcrossing.com/journal/2291227/?title=beach+house&author=&category=&isbn=&bcid=&status=0&screenname=&limit=1/book_-Beach-House-Mary-Alice-Monroe
If not, I'll try to get it from my OBCZ for you. I think you'll love it.

Date: May. 21st, 2005 11:24 pm (UTC)I'm a Turtle Saver too! I've been moving them (and once a really big bullfrog during a heavy rainstorm) from the road since I got here two years ago. And Mick does too. He saved two this morning--one big one and one baby one. In Wisconsin he would stop the lawn mower and save the tiny little toads we had in our backyard because I liked them so much. I guess I'll have to keep him after all.

It's odd how the spouses come up with these itty bitty little hooks that force up to keep them around, isn't it?
Good stock. Yep. I agree. :)

Date: May. 22nd, 2005 02:51 pm (UTC)This is the same man who, when I was a kid, accidentally struck a deer with his car one night, and then loaded the injured animal into the backseat and brought it home to try to help it.
