But let me say a few words about Nadya Suleman and her continued insistence that she does not/has not received public assistance.

  • She receives food stamps. Food stamps are public assistance.
  • She and all of her children more than likely have health insurance through Medi-Cal (known in other states as Medicaid). Medi-Cal is public assistance.
  • She receives Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for three of her older children. (See this article.) The maximum rate of SSI for disabled children in the state of California is $793.00 per month per child. SSI is public assistance.
  • The octuplets will most likely automatically qualify for SSI as well because of their short gestation period and low birth weight. (This is my profession, folks; I know SSI inside and out.) This is potentially another $793.00 per month per child. Let's do the math, shall we? 11 disabled children multiplied by $793.00 per month equals $8,723.00 per month. TAX FREE. PUBLIC ASSISTANCE.

Oh, and according to the article below (and a couple others I've read), she paid for her fertility treatments with money she saved from working and from a workers compensation settlement. I wonder if she disclosed said savings and income to her SSI claims rep? Said savings and income would have disqualified the children for SSI benefits. And now she's got her own website and is soliciting donations online? I certainly hope whoever is her case manager at the servicing Social Security office is paying attention to all of this. I smell a big fat fraud investigation coming on....
