Yesterday's adventure, part I--with pics, of course

Spouse went yard-saling (sale-ing? sailing? [grin]) yesterday morning. He was out the door by 7:30 am, armed with cash and a willing spirit. I, on the other hand, stayed home and slept an extra hour before getting up and making coffee.

I had just started my second cup when spouse came through the door from the garage, shouting, "Come help me, woman! I have books!"

And lo, he had books. The entire trunk was full, the back seat was stacked to the headliner, and boxes of books rode shotgun in the passenger seat as well.

We carried them into the house. Then, the initial sorting began.

Anything intact but not in good enough shape for him to sell went into a BookCrossing pile for me to sort.

After sorting, the box of to-be-registered books.

Anything I didn't want went into a box for Goodwill. Anything too dirty to be cleaned or too damaged to be repaired or otherwise made presentable went into a box for the recycle bin.

Two boxes for Goodwill on the left, one box for recycling on the right.

All others were laid out on the floor to be more closely inspected and, if they make the cut, to be uploaded to spouse's eBay store. The total haul was over 600 books, and they were everywhere.

On the floor in rows...

In boxes...

In stacks...

On the table...

On the windowsill...

And, naturally, piled up by the man himself, hard at work.

*sigh*
We need more bookshelves. Again.

All I can say is . . . . Wow!

I love "come help me, woman! I have books!"

How fun -- it's like a big party :)

When you figure out "garage sail/sale/sale-ing, let me know. I've got another one for you to work on. Today we were behind a Really Slow Car (left lane, of course), and I said they were out "Sundaydrivering". Unk didn't believe that was a real word. Can you imagine?

OT to ant

That little icon looks so much like you and Unk - cute! I have one of me and MrH, but it doesn't look like us.

Thanks! The funny part of that one, I think, is that I said "green" eyes for me, but I think it looks like "Green Eyeshadow -- LOTS" :)

I like yours, though, even if it's not an exact representation, and the ship in the background plus the flower in your hair always make me smile :)

Thanks, I'm glad it makes you smile! I worked so hard to make it that I'm just going to leave it as it is, even though I'm not completely satisfied. I'm sorta lazy, too!

come help me, woman!

*snicker*
He's awfully funny when he acts like he's the boss.

Wow, wow, wow! All those books -- Wow!

Why are there no yard sales in my country? Do you have any idea of how hard it is to come by cheap used books in my place? Snifff... I'm envious.

[identity profile] avanta7.livejournal.com 2006-06-27 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
So have one! Start a trend!

[identity profile] atenea-nike.livejournal.com 2006-06-27 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have a yard, and setting up an unlicensed stall as a street vendor is frowned upon by local authorities ;) so although I do have enough junk to fill two or three yard sales, I can't have one.

I count myself as lucky because we do have, every once in a while, charity sales in our neighborhood church (right by my front door), but in the last two or three ones there weren't any books to buy.

Gee, that looks like my house - except your stacks are neater!

{snerk!}

I should probably take some pictures of the current chaos, as I've just agreed to host my sister and her three kids next weekend and will have to free up a lot of floor space by then!

Wow, what a load of books! Did you keep Prodigal Summer? It's a fabulous book.

[identity profile] avanta7.livejournal.com 2006-06-27 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Prodigal Summer will go on Mt. TBR once it's registered. It will be my first Barbara Kingsolver. *smile*

Boooooooooks.
(Ikea?)

More likely Target, which is where we bought the last set. Spouse wants to keep them all similar, with an eye to putting them in a brick&mortar store in the (near? distant? who knows?) future.
