Odd behavior

While at Target today, I noticed a man leaving the store at the same time I was. He was probably in his early to mid-30s, ordinary in appearance, casually dressed. He was slightly ahead of me and to the left. He stopped in front of the non-automatic doors when he realized they weren't opening, but instead of pushing the doors open and going out, he stepped around the barrier to his right, jumped in front of me and exited through the automatic doors. Then turned left on the sidewalk and continued on his merry way; in other words, retracing steps he needn't have taken, all to avoid manually opening a door.

I find this very curious.

like the people who sit and wait for a parking spot that is one isle closer instead of driving to the next isle that has plenty of open stalls? Especially funny when its at the gym.

Indeed.

I get so little exercise these days anyway that I've started parking a little further away from the stores. May as well take what I can get when I can get it!

That's the sign of a hard-core germaphobe. I must admit, I avoid touching 'public' doors whenever possible, but there's no need to make a big production of it, and CERTAINLY no need to jump in front of other people. What a freak.

Such a strange little slice of life

Could be a freak. Could just be extraordinarily lazy, too.

This is the oddest part. He stood there for at least a full second while he decided what to do. Why not simply turn around and open the door with his backside instead of jumping in front of me? Or did the possible germophobia extend to contact of any kind with public doors? If so, how can he manage to go out in public at all? Does he use his feet to open non-automatic doors like the silly woman in that soap commercial?

(This coming from the decidedly non-germophobic woman who usually fails to wash her hands prior to eating, unless she was petting one of the animals immediately beforehand.)

(But, to put your mind at ease, I always wash before cooking and after using the restroom!)

Precisely. Unless it's a pull-in door, there's the choice of shoulder, hip or rump, and the hands never have to touch the sweaty, muzzy door handle. Interesting human foibles, no?

Ha! I probably dated him.

*snerk*

Poor baby. No chivalry for you!
