As if the world (or my family) needed more evidence...

...of my complete geekitude.

Exhibit A:

The other day at work, while assisting another claims representative during an interview, the client used the word "assimilate". I couldn't help myself.

"Resistance is futile," said I. The client and my colleague gave me a puzzled look.

"You will be assimilated," I continued. The client and my colleague looked even more confused.

"Star Trek reference," I clarified. "Never mind." The client nodded his head and went on describing his medical problems. My colleague looked utterly blank and kept typing. I went back to my desk.

Exhibit B:

My sister sent me an Amazon gift card for Christmas. Today I used it to purchase this:

Blade Runner 5-Disc Ultimate Collector's Edition

Never mind that I already have the original version on VHS, and the Director's Cut on DVD. My husband just shook his head in disbelief. My sister told me I was weird.

Ayup. Insert geekhood here.

Software question

Since spouse and I bought each other new laptops for Christmas, and now have really nifty and powerful toys to play with, I'm considering adding Photoshop or something similar to my software arsenal. Mainly, I want a program that will allow me to add captions to or word balloons to photos; and then animate them for LJ userpic purposes. (Isn't that pathetic?)

Currently installed photo/graphics programs are: HP PhotoMovieMaker, HP Photosmart Essential, Microsoft Publisher, Windows Movie Maker, and Muvee6, all of which came with the new toy, and none of which seems to do what I want to do (i.e., make animated icons).

This may be due to operator incompetence, of course, and so I present to you, O Great and Powerful LJ Reading Public, my request for assistance: Which program(s) named above will make nifty animated icons and how does it perform such function; or, if none, which software program(s) do you recommend to do such tasks?
